Durco Filters Biodiesel Equipment
Dry Washing & Filtration Systems For Small (<10MM gal/yr) to Large-Scale (>10MM gal/yr) Biodiesel / Biofuel / WVO Plants
Durco Filters Biodiesel Dry Washing & Filtration Process
Step One: Dry WashingThis step employs a magnesium silicate mixing and adsorption process to quickly separate contaminants away from the purified biodiesel product: Following transesterification, the unwashed biodiesel stream is sent to the mixing tank. Here a small amount of magnesium silicate adsorbant is intimately combined with the unpurified biodiesel to complete the "dry-washing" process. The result is a biodiesel stream with the impurity-laden adsorbant in suspension. |
Step Two: Filtration
After the short dry washing step, the process stream is then sent through a biodiesel filter that separates the purified biodiesel liquid from the dry wash adsorbant.
Two (2) Proven Filtration Technologies For the Filtration Step
Following the Dry Washing Step, a Filtration Step is required to remove contaminated adsorbent, and any other particulate, down to the sub-micron level. There are two (2) highly proven filtration technologies, but only one of these will provide optimum performance in your specific process:

With the right choice of filter technology, a wide range of suspended solids (typically 1-3%, by weight) can be removed. This is, in part, dependant on the specific size of your large-scale biodiesel production operation and several other critical process factors, such as:
- Manual, Semi Automatic, or Fully Automated Operation.
- Employment of Optional fail-safe bag filter station.
- Continuous operation or batch processing
We can design and build your Biodiesel Dry Wash and Filtration system to accomodate any of these requirements.
The end result is a clean biodiesel product that is now ready for storage and the solid by-product may be sold for a variety of uses including animal feed or fertilizer.
Durco Filters Biodiesel Dry Washing & Filtration Systems Benefits:
- SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED:
- Biodiesel / Biofuel processing time
- Thru complete elimination of the need for an oil/water emulsion separation stage or a drying stage.
- Plant start-up & operating costs
- Thru complete elimination of the capital and maintenance associated with traditional washing equipment.
- Smaller footprint than traditional water wash or bubble wash equipment.
- Environmental impact
- No water effluent waste streams, which are normally hazardous by-products of traditional biodiesel washing and drying techniques.
- Biodiesel / Biofuel processing time
- Supersedes Traditional Water Washing or Bubble Washing Equipment to Achieve:
- Highly efficient separation of the transesterified biodiesel process stream into clarified biodiesel (methyl-ester) end-product
- Recyclable by-product.
- A unique magnesium silicate dry wash process to achieve large-scale production of high quality biodiesel / biofuel, capable of meeting or exceeding ASTM-D6571 requirements.
- Pilot-scale testing facilities are available to validate product specifications for Your specific biodiesel / biofuel process in your specific plant.
Durco Filters Biodiesel Dry Washing And Filtration Systems are available as complete turnkey packages. Individual filter units can also be integrated into existing large scale biodiesel / biofuel production, or indeed any large-scale general silicate (ex. Magnesol or Trisyl Silica) filtering plant.
Expertise
By choosing the optimum Durco Filters technology, any dry washing or other particulate filtering system can be configured to handle a wide range of flow rates from virtually any industrial process stream. Batch or continuous production operations can both be supported.
